Thanks to Kevin Watson for the following photograph.

John Burns (1970-1975) writes

'Something wrong with the 'Sixth Form ' photo on the web.  This was taken around 1973 by the presence of the formidable Sam Morgan but included more than the 6th Form at the time.  There are many of my class mates pictured so we would have included at least 3rd stream and upwards.  I reacognised a couple of guys who were in the fifith form that term.  But I can't figure out where I was although I remember the photo being taken  ..'

Can anyone give me more details?

Ian Clark

Nick Lloyd answers this request:

The photo is dated May 1973 and there about 260 pupils which I would think is about right for both ranks of the sixth form. At that date I was in the lower sixth and I can certainly recognise one or two from the upper sixth. Additionally, I cannot spot any of the less than savoury fifth formers with whom I occasionally hung out, e.g. Joss, Ross, McCubbin and Roberts from 5T. I have appended U6 for upper sixthers and L6 for lowers.

The extremely tall lad in the back row behind Mr Pattinson is Terence Dowdeswell (L6). He is unmissable from his height, waistcoat/cardigan, blond hair and spectacles. Almost everyone else I can name will be from this point of reference.

  • 3rd to the right of T Dowdeswell (his left) is Peter Sudworth (L6)
  • 4th to the right is, I think, Simon Bird (L6)
  • 6th to the right is (Michael?) Hedges (L6)
  • 7th to the right - and somewhat in need of a trim - is yours truly (L6)
  • 11th to the right is Paul Harris (L6)
  • 17th to the right - and even more in need of a trim - is Mark Wilkin (L6)
  • 20th to the right (and who in their right mind would teach at their old school) is David Willmot (L6)
  • 29th to the right, I think, is Ian Vale (L6)

Changing the point of reference to the right hand end of the photo towards what in my day was the "Geography block".

  • 7th in on the second row (from front) is Paul Stanger (U6)
  • Two behind him with a light coloured v neck sweater under his blazer is Mark Lawrie (L6), I think
  • I suspect that either side of Mark are Fraser Pearson (fair) and Tim Ross (dark) both L6, but I can't be sure.

Swinging back to the middle and T Dowdeswell once more.

  • Immediately in front of TD and slightly to our left is Ian Price, complete with sideboards (as we called them then) (L6), I think.
  • Certainly, five to the left of him is Peter Hollingsworth (L6) - no doubt a veritable pillar of the Old Wycombiensian community!

Swinging across to the left end - towards the old library, second row from back, seventh boy in from left, wearing spectacles, is Adrian Jones (L6)

That's as much as I can manage.

Hopefully this might add to some feedback already received - if there are any other comments I would be interested to compare notes.

Yours, Nick Lloyd
