SPORTS
REUNION PRIOR TO THE ANNUAL DINNER
Following the questionnaire that was circulated last year, some one hundred members replied that they would be interested in various sports and activities. In response, we are presenting two Sports Reunion Days, the first on the day of the Old Boys’ Dinner, April 12. The second will be on the day of the Annual School versus Old Boys cricket match, which will be held on July 16.
The
sports to be presented will be Rugby, Hockey, Fencing and Rowing on April 12,
and Cricket, Golf and Tennis together with any other activities we can get
sufficient participants involved in, on July 16. In the magazine you will find an application form, combined with
the dinner booking form, which should be completed and returned to Ian Clark.
We want as many as possible to be involved, not only
members but tell your friends from School from your year group and get them
involved, even if they are not members of the Club. On April 12, the idea is
that all those participating in or watching the events will be able to get to
the bar in the Queen’s Hall, and then hopefully stay on for the Annual Dinner.
On July 12, we hope to plan the day so that all the events will finish at
approximately the same time, so that participants can join in a Barbecue at the
Cricket Pavilion, together with their partners if they wish.
RUGBY
Almost a team of Rugby players replied to the
questionnaire. At the last Old Boys v. High Wycombe Boxing Day match we had
over 30 players, and those in the know volunteered to start in order get into
the bar first. We have suggested the
match will be on April 12 commencing at 4.00pm. We chose the date so that it
might be possible for Old Boys away at university to be back at Wycombe for
Easter and could get involved. The later start is in order to finish in time to
go to the bar after the game. Those Old Boys who are involved in the
professional game and would be unable to play because of contracts, are welcome
to come along and meet their friends in the bar after the game. The match will be held on the School pitch
and we plan to organise it in the same way as the Boxing Day games were held.
HOCKEY
David Stone is helping to organise this sport and
hopes are high that we will get 22 players. The match will be held at Handy Cross
commencing at 4.30pm, here again so that players can finish in time to change
and get to the Queen’s Hall at 6.30pm when the bar will open.
FENCING
Two years ago when John Roebuck retired as fencing
coach, there was a very successful reunion of Old Boys to play a match against
the RGS. John Roebuck has kindly
offered to referee at a reunion of Old Boys on April 12.
The event will be held in the Sports’ Hall at the
RGS, and here again the event will start at a time suitable for all involved to
join in the activities in the bar in the Queen’s Hall and, if possible, we
would hope that participants will come to the dinner afterwards.
ROWING
Ian Blyth will be the guest of honour at the Old
Boys’ Dinner. We hope that he will be
fully supported by boys whom he coached over the years. Ed Arnold, Hugo Clark, David Davies,
A.S.Jagger and Timothy Webber all answered the questionnaire saying that they
were interested in a reunion. We can
use the school eight and four boats.
The present school coach tells us that if we have any difficulty in
getting time on the river on April 12 at Marlow, she can arrange for time at
Eton on the Lake. Here again we would
like the participants to finish up in the bar at the Queen’s Hall and join in
the dinner if possible.
Please complete the form and come
along. There will be no charge for participating. The bar will be operated by the PA. Please complete the form for the dinner
if you can stay.
JULY 16
The arrangements for the RGS versus Old Boys’ cricket
match will be as in previous years. The
Golf Day has just been booked at Hazlemere and details are not yet finalised,
but if you are interested please complete the form and we will keep you
informed as the arrangements are finalised.
The same with the Tennis and any other event you might wish to suggest.
