I studied Maths, History, Chemistry and French AS at A-level, and I vividly remember the lessons of legendary figures such as Dr. Smith, Mr. Berry and Mr. Butterworth. I enjoyed studying History, especially the teaching of Dr. Smith, to the extent that I pursued the subject as an undergraduate at the University of Bristol. I was lucky enough to attend lectures by RGS Old Boy Professor Marcus Bull in my first year at Bristol. My thanks are due to the the above teachers for helping me to achieve a First-class BA(Hons) degree at Bristol.
I graduated from Bristol in 2004 and then completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Reading University. I have now been teaching History and Politics for four years. I am Head of Year 10 across the valley in High Wycombe, at John Hampden Grammar School. I have particularly enjoyed leading JHGS cricket teams back to RGS, though we are yet to triumph over my old school! On the cricketing front, I also caught up with Steve Noyes last June, who taught me French for a number of years at RGS. I recall him scoring a dashing half-century in a Staff v Boys fixture at the end of my time at RGS.
